Missing mail in new Archive.pst

I had two archive folders appearing in my Mailbox which appeared to be
duplicates. In sorting this out I created a new Archive1.pst and then ran
AutoArchive with default settings. I then moved (dragged & dropped) many mail
items from original archive into the new archive as I wanted them to be
retained and easily accessible. I was checking data file sizes and could see
changes in relative sizes as I moved items in/out and checked that the items
that i had moved were definitely in the new Archive.

I then removed original archive data file via
File>DataFileManagement>Remove. I then ran AutoArchive one more time. On
rechecking the new archive I found that none of the items that I had moved
were now appearing. Although I haven't deleted the original Pst, it no longer
contains the mail items I moved... as they were moved rather than copied.

What did I do wrong? Did the final autoarchive 'overwrite' everything?

Would like to know for the future.

Thanks

Did you set your (Auto)Archive settings to the new pst-file as well before
your final Archive run?

It's hard to say what is going as some crucial information is missing.
You're saying that your newly created pst-file that you use for archiving is
now empty? When you are checking the folder sizes in Outlook, does it
indicate they are empty as well? What is the size of the pst-file as
reported in Explorer?

Robert. Thanks for the prompt response.

This is one of those issues that is very difficult to trace back exact
actions as there were so many that appeared to be Ok so i didn't really clock
them! However:

Q1) I am pretty sure that I did not reset archive settings to the new pst
file before final run.

Q2) No, it wasn't empty, but I think it only has the items that have been
archived on that last run.

Q3) Old Pst: 1.12Gb. New Pst: 0.8 gb.

Any clues?

Jon
