Outlook won't send my e-mail messages synced to Yahoo.

I attempted to sync my Yahoo Mail Plus account Outlook.  So far, my Yahoo
inbox mail has synced to Outlook.  I also moved my contact/address book to
Outlook.

However, when I attempt to reply to or compose new e-mails to send, they
aren't being mailed.

When Outlook attempts to send an e-mail to the server, it's not being
received.  I do receive a message telling me so.

I'm a novice at all of this and need any help you can offer.

Which version of Outlook are you using?

What kind of message is that and what is its exact contents?

When you send a message to yourself, does it arrive then?

If your messages aren't being delivered, then it's possibe you didn't
configure your account correctly.  However, since you don't describe your
symptoms in any detail, there's no way we can solve the problem as-is.  Do you
get any error messages?  When you click the Test button in the account
properties, exactly what happens?  Did you contact Yahoo or visit their help
pages to make sure you've configured your account properly?  When you try to
send a message, does it just sit in the Outbox or does it move to Sent Items?
What version of Outlook?  When you post a question, try to be as detailed and
exact as possible.

I'm using Outlook 2007.  I did check Yahoo to make sure that I was using the
correct settings.

When I hit the Test button, I receive the following message:  Outlook cannot
connect to your service provider.  If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider.

When I attempt to send a message, it sits in the Outbox.

I attempted to send myself a message, and didn't receive it.

Yes, I looked at the Yahoo Help pages and cannot see where I have configured
incorrectly.

Thank you.

Then it's likely that either 1) despite what you say, you have not configured
the account correctly or 2) you have something on your PC blocking the
connection.  Test this out by using the built-in telnet command in Windows to
connect to the server and port you have configured in Outlook's account.  If
that, too, fails, then you have a blockage, perhaps in your firewall.  Open a
command prompt window and enter

telnet yourserver port

where "yourserver" is the Yahoo SMTP server you have configured and "port" is
the port number Yahoo wants you to use.  You should see a response that looks
similar to this:

220 yourserver ESMTP server ready at Mon, 29 Jun 2009 13:58:16 -0400

If you see that, your connection appears to work.  To end this session, type
"quit" and press Enter.  Let us know what happens.

Are you authenticating with the mail server? That is the usual cause of mail
not sending.  You may need to use a custom port also - the Yahoo Mail Plus
help page should have instructions for your version of outlook.

Diane,

Your suggestion worked!!!  Thank you so much.  I clicked on "More Settings"
and saw where to put the custom port info.  I didn't understand about the
port issue.

It means so much to me to sync Yahoo Mail Plus and Outlook without having to
ask my hubby for help.  Just my independent streak, I guess. LOL.

Thanks, again, for explaining the issue, to me, in easy terms.

Bonnie
