How do I delete or hide folders in my Outlook folder list?

I just upgraded from Microsoft Office 2000 Professional to 2007 Professional.
I don't use all the bells and whistles provided by Outlook Express.  I want
to clean up my folder list by hiding many of them.  When I go through some of
the drop-down menus, I see clicks for deleting some of the folders, but they
are "grayed" and will not respond to a click.  Can anyone help me?

What are these folders you want to hide or delete? Some folders are
"system" folders and CANNOT be deleted...

Outlook Express? maybe a typo?
You cannot delete/remove the default folders.
What particular folders did you have in mind?
