Filter Rules Management

I would like to know how to organize my filters that I have set up. Is there
a way to sort them alphabetically? Is there a free program or that you can
recommend that can organize this. I really like the way Mozilla Thunderbird
filter set up works.

I have Outlook 2007. It seem to me that you have to set up tow different
rules for To and From messages or am I missing something. In otherwords, for
message From A you have to set up the rules for those messages. For messages
Sent to A, you have to set up specific rules. Can you set up a rule that
will handle the messages Sent and To A?? So you understand what I done, I've
created 2 rules named A Sent & A To that moves these messages to a specified
folder.

My last question, how to do with add a email address to an existing rule.
How can this be done quickly?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best wishes,
SeaTiger

There are no 3rd party tools you can use to manage outlook's rules.
Outlook has separate sending and receiving rules for outbound and inbound
mail.  If A is either sending you mail or included in the To or CC field on
inbound mail you can use one rule, but if you send A a message, it needs
another rule. The one exception is if you are moving mail from A to a
folder - there is an option to keep sent items with the original if not in
the Inbox.  Look in tools, options, email options, advanced.

Hi Diane:

Thank you for you reply.

I want to make sure I understand what you are saying.

Let say I want to set a Rule that messages that I receive From email address
"A" are forwarded to "Folder A." I name this rule "A From." Now I want to
set up a Rule that messages I send to email address "A" are also forwarded
to "Folder A as well." You are saying that I would need to set up a separate
Rule, in this case, "A To." Is that correct?

Using the above example, let say I want to add another email address, "B" to
the above Rules. How would perform that task?

Thank you for you time and consideration.

Best wishes,
victor

In this specific example, you need 1 rule for incoming mail and the tools,
options, email options, advanced option to save sent items in the folder
with the original.

To add a second address - moving to the same folder you would add the
address to the same rule. If moving it to its own folder, you'd need a new
rule.

Note that the fewer rules and fewer folders, the better. Use search folders
and custom views instead.

I am getting two messages in the folder that is designated for the messages
to go to. How do I determine the cause or test a rule?

Does the first rule (or all rules) have Stop processing added to the rules?
No using stop processing often causes dupes when a second rule acts on it.

If you mean rules, then sorting them alphabetically can change their behavior.
Rules run in the order their listing in the Rules Wizard.  If you create them
so that one depends on another, changing their order can change the dependency
and how they act upon the imcoming messages.

Hi Brian:

Thank you for your reply.

Using my examples that I sent to Diane. I basically have named my Rules "A
To," "A From," "B To," "B From" when A or B is the name of my vendor. So,
depending on when they were created, finding them on the list is very
cumbersome as I have over 50 vendors x 2 Rule Names for the To & From
messages.

How would you suggest organizing them? I am currently getting duplicate
messages because I am sure some of my Rules are duplicated.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best wishes,
Victor
