outlook and wlm

Where is outlook going?
Where is WLM going?

For a classical ms programs user, it is quite confusing what win live mail
and outlook is for, if they are substitutes or complements.
Both has calendar, contacts, mail support....
WLM has newsgroup support and outlook does not.

Well, all these are confusing.

Why not just make two versions out of Outlook?

One will be the office product: make all the specialties available in this
version
The second will be a lighter version: make this available to public and keep
it more simple.

In its current state, out and wlm are confusing people.

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

That is what Microsoft has done.

WLM for simpler mail, contacts, calendar. Outlook for Exchange and
collaboration as well as the WLM basics.

Few people have expressed confusion.

Yeah? But the look, name and more more things are very different.

I don't see where there should be confusion, not like Outlook and Outlook
Express. :) They renamed OE to avoid confusion.

Windows Live Mail client is free for anyone, Outlook must be purchased,
either as part of office/standalone or with a handheld device. It is a
simple mail client for users with simple needs - POP3 or IMAP email, most
often for personal use. Outlook is way too much, with too many features, for
this type of user (ie, my sisters). It's too big, too slow, too much to
learn.

LM does not include a calendar within the client, only Vista users have an
offline calendar application. This was a decision made by the Windows design
team as it is a Windows feature. Outlook is designed by a different group
and its intended to be the mail client for Exchange server, with POP3 and
IMAP an afterthought (IMAP especially, as its not a very good imap client).
