Outbox Latency Issue

Working with Office Pro 2003/Vista Ultimate.  Outgoing emails are
increasingly lingering in the outbox and multiple send/recieve efforts are
necessary to send.  I believe it might be a local issue although the machine
is a 3.6Ghz/8Gb memory/ with two 500Gb drives.  Looking for an objective and
focused way to troubleshoot this issue.  I see in Vista that there is a
feature that allows a custom event view.  Don't know how to configure it or
if it can monitor this issue.  Guidance sought

Do you have antivirus or security software scanning your outbound email?
That is a major cause of issues of this sort.

Much thanks for the timely reply.  When my outgoing mail is scanned there is
an indication from the AV icon in the tray.  That is not the case in this
instance.  I leave my machine on most of the day and often find mail in the
outbox sent hours before.  This was never the case with the machine when new
and has progressed to the this state.  The typical maintenance tasks are
performed regularly.  Updates, disk defrag, etc.  I also did the detect &
Repair, clean mgr  with no apparent problem.  Still looking for a way to
monitor processes just after an email is sent.
