Outlook 2007 - Fax -> e-mail issueI used to be able to type the first few letters of a first and last name
when writing a new e-mail and it would quickly find the e-mail address of the person I was trying to e-mail. Since upgrading to 2007, now, when I look at the pick list when e-mailing someone, it has turned all of the fax #'s into e-mail addresses. So, there are now 2 "e-mail address" for many of these people, which means if I type in their name, it will not fill in the rest because there are now two entries for this. Very annoying. Is there any way to turn this off, other than deleting all of the fax #'s from my contact list? Jesse Never mind., I found the "fix". Unfortunately, there is no way to turn this
off in Outlook. You have to append something like "O:" or "Fax:" to the front of the fax # to stop Outlook from doing this. I have hundreds of entries to do this to, unfortunately, and I don't want to install yet another add in to fix something in Outlook. First, Outlook has always included fax numbers in the address book view because they are electronic addresses. It didn't start with Outlook 2007. Second, this would have no bearing on what you claim are doing. You stated that you were typing the first few letters and letting Outlook autocomplete your entry. When I had Outlook 2000, and I was
looking at the address book to pick an address, I saw ONE entry, not two. Even if Outlook has always done this, it didn't do it to me in Outlook 2000! It was my assumption that having two entries in the address book was causing the auto complete to fail, maybe that was an incorrect assumption, I don't know. I do know now that since I've put something in front of the fax # that the auto-complete is working as it should now. Crazy fix if you ask me, I think that Outlook should have some sort of check box to turn this "feature" off, but it doesn't. I never have used fax #'s as e-mail addresses, and don't think I ever will. If I want to send a fax, I'll send a fax, not an e-mail. Address Book interface to view contacts. What that interface presented differs from what the Outlook Address Book interface presents. I suspect that the WAB interface doesn't count fax numbers as electronic addresses. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] you could create a view with just the full name and email address fields
then copy and paste the list into the To field. This will populate the autocomplete cache with the addresses in your contacts so fewer names will need to be resolved.
