Hotmail POP access in Outlook 2007

Since POP access has been made available to Hotmail users, I decided to
ditch Outlook Connector for downloading emailing and connect direct to my
inbox.

Initially, I found that when Hotmail messages were downloaded into Outlook
the original message was removed from the server and therefore could not be
accessed by visiting hotmail.com. After adjusting the appropriate setting in
Account Options I was able to leave a copy of an email on the server, but
there is still one small gripe I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I have Windows Live Messenger running and this informs me when a new email
has been recieved. I switch to Outlook to read it and it is marked as read
in the email client. However, Messenegr still reports that I have an unread
message and continues to do so until I read the message online. Is there any
way to stop this or will I have to revert back to using Outlook Connector?

Since you are leaving mail on the server and pop3 does not sync back to the
server, LM has no way to know that you read it in outlook.  You'll either
need to use outlook's new mail reminders, stop leaving it on the server, to
use the connector.

It is beyond me why they didn't add IMAP support instead of POP3.  With
IMAP all your changes would be continually synced and accessible from
anywhere, with any client.

The outlook connector offers server sync and includes contacts and calendar.
The live mail client offers the same type of access but without the need for
a connector.

With the frequency the hotmail servers have problems and considering how
poorly Outlook handles IMAP in the first place, it was probably wise to not
offer it.
