sharing pst between two profiles, possible?Hi,
I'm trying to setup two outlook profiles and would like to share the same pst so my users don't have to download the same messages twice, as they are now. Does anyone know how to do this? On Nov 14, 12:36 pm, Mike B <Mike B***@discussions.microsoft.com>

Does anyone know how to do this? just point the pst data file to each profile. I haven't tested with having single pst file being accessed by different profile at the same time. Which version of Outlook? Its Outlook 2k3....Its pointed to the same pst in the settings but it insists
on downloading msgs it already downloaded in the other profile..... Outlook doesn't use the PST to keep track of what messages > insists on downloading msgs it already downloaded in the other > profile..... have been downloaded (it uses a registry path), so there's no way one Outlook can know what the other one has downloaded or not. So, download on one PC and not on the other (i.e., set your send/receive group so that it only sends). You can choose to delete messages from the server or not, as you see fit. This all begs the question, though, why you have multiple users accessing the same POP mailbox. POP mailboxes aren't really designed for sharing. IMAP accounts are better for that. Since the sharing is at the server level and not at the local level, two people can access the mailbox simultaneously and don't have to coordinate who's turn it is to open Outlook. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] Maybe I'm not being clear. I have sales people using laptops. They are in and
out of the office. We have an external ip for mail and an internal ip addr. No one is sharing a pst. We have an external profile and an internal profile. both profiles are pointed to the same pst. Each user has only one pc. After travelling and returning to the office, and using the internal profile, the messages already rec'd are downloaded again, creating duplicate msgs in the inbox. I'm trying to figure out how to make the duplicates not happen. You still can have only one person at a time accessing the data, and there are plenty of problems with trying to share the same PST, not the least of which is that one of the people, at any rate, will be accessing the PST by network, if the two people aren't using the same PC. There are better ways to share the data that sharing the PST. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
