is there a maximum number of email accounts one can have in any one
profile for OL to work properly?
i am experiencing problems with OL, perhaps my profile, etc. and am

there is, but it's quite a few (I think near 50). how many do you have?
There will be issues if you have more than 4 collecting from the same mail
server.

Hi Diane,
Thanks a lot for your reply as we may have an issue here.
I have 26 email accounts in my default OL profile with 15 accounts on
automatic polling.
What could be the issue with more than 4 collecting from same email server?
And can it be circumvented, etc.?

Outlook only connects to 4 at a time per server so others to the same server
may time out. It's more of a problem if you have a lot of mail to download
in one of more of the accounts. You can avoid most problems if you set up
different Send/Receive groups so no two accounts on the same server are
checked at the same time, especially if the accounts get a lot of mail. Set
the most important accounts to poll no more often than 8 - 10 min and the
others less often.

Say you have 4 accounts for each of 3 servers. Make 3 or 4 S/R groups and
put one account from each server in each group. Set one to check every 8
min, one every 10 and one every 12, the 4th would be for 14 min. This should
eliminate most problems, even if you put two accounts for one server in each
group.

if you have auto polling set to less than 5 min, try it at 10 - it may fix
your problems without using S/R groups. Outlook gets buggy when it tries to
start an autopoll when the previous one is still checking mail and may just
stop checking mail period.

OK.  I had started to use several groups but not gotten around to
setting up the polling for all the accounts that way.  i will use 10
mns, 12 mns, etc. and make sure there is no simultaneous
connections/overlap between the groups.
Hopefully it will help.
Looking at my network processes, I had noticed that OL was opening 4
connections at a time on the same mail server and was wondering why.
I could be being refused access by the mail server of the hosting
company if too many connections are coming fro same ip perhaps..... i'm
not really sure......
i'll post results here.
