Emails not deleted

I'm using Outlook 2003 - I have my settings to remove from server when
deleted from 'Deleted Items' after exiting
Outlook.  However, the emails are not being deleted from the Comcast server.
Does anyone know why this is happening or how I could correct the problem?

Thanks,
newtechie

if you are deleting the mail on exit, the ones on the server should be
deleted the next time outlook connects to Comcast.

Yes - but that's not what's happening.  They are still on Comcast's server.
Any suggestions?

Perhaps Comcast's server isn't properly implementing the POP protocols and
does not honor the deletion request.  Were I in your shoes, I'd be speaking
with Comcast.

Hi Brian - Unfortunately it's not a Comcast problem.  I did contact them
this morning and spoke with someone who actually walked me through the steps
to make sure I wasn't going crazy (already knew I wasn't but still) and
using the 'test account settings' everything worked.  I then deleted the
test message, exited Outlook, signed on to Comcast through the web and the
message was still there.  Then - we also set up an account in Outlook
Express with the exact same settings and followed the same steps I did in
Outlook but this time the message was not on Comcast's server.  So how do
you explain that?

I believe there's something wrong with Outlook.

The "Test Account Settings" button does not test the complete path.

Enable diagnostic logging and see what commands Outlook is sending to the
Comcast server.  It will show the DEL commands, if any are sent, and if
sent, then that would be proof Comcast's server is ignoring the commands.

Ok Brian - I've enabled logging and checked the log file and I see where it
says 'Deleting NukedItems'.  I also see a line where it says 'Do deletions:
LoS: yes, DoN: yes.  Does this mean they're actually being deleted?

I actually check my Comcast email through the web this morning and the
emails are not there.  Strange..do you think its because I uninstalled my
spam filter (Mailwasher)?

Does this appear at the end when you close Outlook?

Add-ins always throw extra variables into the mix and testing should always
be done with add-ins disabled.  It wouldn't surprise me if MailWasher is
causing the side-effect you see, especially if it is acting as a POP proxy
sitting between Outlook and your server.  It doesn't appear to be (the FAQ
seems to indicate it's another POP client that doesn't download messages),
but I'm not at all familiar with it.

I wanna say these appeared at the top and middle; can't remember exactly.

What FAQ are you referring to?  Is there a link to it?  I guess I don't
understand
your last sentence.

MailWasher's FAQ

On the MailWasher web site.  http://www.mailwasher.net/faq.php

About what was I unclear?  "POP Proxy", perhaps?

Thank you.

Yup!  I'm thinking it(mailwasher) might have played a part in the behavior
but i'm not for sure.
I'm gonna reinstall in and see if it happens again.  The mailwasher site
says it acts as "a first line of
defense" because I guess you have the option to delete messages from the
server when it's launched.

Thanks for all your help.

A POP proxy is an application that sits between your client and the real POP
server.  It acts as a POP server to the client and acts as a POP client to
the server.  It allows filtering of incoming mail prior to it reaching the
client.

From my brief reading of the MailWasher FAQ, it appears that it operates as
a completely separate POP client that you use first prior to running your
regular POP client, using MailWasher to clean up the contents of the POP
server prior to downloading it with your normal POP client.
